| Sep. 10th, 2006 10:58 pm Sightseeing and Spa Today was quite the rollercoaster- I was in a fabulous mood this morning! We got started early and hopped on a big red bus that takes a circle tour of the city. We drove past all the things I wanted to see but not really go in, so it was a win-win situation. It was lovely outside and I had no idea Budapest was soooo big! In my opinion it's way better than Prague. It has a castle on a hill by a river just like Prague, and that's really all Prague has. Budapest has all sorts of things, plus it's cheaper and has cooler shopping.
We went in search of a phone card to refill Jessica's cell but apparently it is impossible to do so unless you are in Austria. Lots of walking later, we got back to the hostel. The only thing I wanted to do was go to a spa, so I suggested it and no one wanted to go. I sat on my bed for a bit sulking and then made it up in my mind that I would go alone. Sure, I have no phone, but I knew exactly how to get there by map. Needless to say my suggestion didn't go over well and Abigail came with me. It would have been a neat test to see if I was up for going it alone. Oh well. Kind of like going to a restaraunt or a movie by yourself.
The spa was soooo weird (in an akward way, because we didn't know what on earth we were doing) but I am sooo glad I went. We paid about 8 dollars and got a little changing room with a lock on it, changed quickly, and entered the main complex. It was just like a lot of rooms with really big hot tubs- I was hoping the architechture would be a little more extravagant like some of the pictures I have seen, but it was plain white. We sat in a few tubs, got leered at by some creepy dudes, and finally a nice little asian man who had talked to us outside came over and told us there was a whole playground of pools outside! So we headed out and man, was the courtyard ridiculous! There were four or five huge pools, all of varying temperatures, with tons of people sitting in them. It was quite a sight, and made me wonder why thermal baths haven't spread worldwide now that we have the technology to heat pools. I guess it's much less costly if it is coming from a natural hot spring. Anyways, we sat out there until a creepy Hungarian dude hit on me and wouldn't leave me alone. I thought I was being pretty clear, but he really missed the point. Then we bumbled around trying to find the exit. I did notice that my legs were doing some SERIOUS exfoliating action by just being in the water. I am so smooth and refreshed now! Yay for Turkish baths in Hungary.
We just spent about 34 years at a restaraunt that proportedly had amazing goulash. It might have been okay, except it took forever (two hours total, and all we got was goulash soup and drinks). The guy must have hated us because after our first basket of decent bread, we asked for more and he came out with- no joke- stale Wonderbread. Who knew they even had that stuff over here?
Now the girls are out and I am packing for our trip back to Vienna, where upon arrival I shall floof up my bed and sleep. Current Mood: bouncy
